The First Day

I can't believe the first day of the school year is here! The first day always brings up lots of feelings and emotions each year for different reasons. My first year I was nervous and excited to be a first year teacher. Year two I was excited to see my returning students and families. My third year I had surgery a few weeks into school on my foot and was nervous about leaving my students with a substitute for so long (ended up being around 4 weeks) at the beginning of the school year and worried about helping students with behaviors while on crutches when I returned to work. Last year, year four, was filled with excitement and nerves as I started a new position with teaching Preschoolers as well as teaching in a new state with a new district and at a new school. This year is my fifth year teaching. The Special Education Preschool team is at a new school but with the same district. This brought up feelings of nervousness while changing administration and figuring out how the new school does things. To be honest it doesn't even feel like the first day has happened yet. We had such a great day with our Preschoolers and they all did so well! We were able to have them play with Playdoh, they did some smash paint, and we created a "First Day of Preschool" headband. They had so much fun and all were so happy to be back at school! It is crazy to think a year ago we were starting off the school year fully virtual. I am so thankful to start this year fully in-person!
